Indore Woman Arrested for Husband’s Murder During Honeymoon in Meghalaya
In a chilling twist to a missing persons case, Sonam Raghuvanshi—the Indore woman reported missing during her honeymoon in Meghalaya—has been arrested for the murder of her husband, police confirmed on Monday. She was taken into custody from Ghazipur in Uttar Pradesh, days after her husband’s decomposed body was found in a gorge in Meghalaya’s East Khasi Hills.
The arrest marks a significant development in the case of 28-year-old Raja Raghuvanshi, whose body was discovered on June 2, nearly 10 days after he and his wife vanished during their honeymoon in the scenic Sohra (Cherrapunjee) region. The couple had last been seen on May 23, and their rented scooter was later found abandoned in Sohrarim village with the keys still intact.
Police sources revealed that Sonam contacted her family, who then informed Indore Police. Working on the lead, officials tracked her location to Ghazipur. She was swiftly arrested by local police, and an Indore Police team is en route to bring her back for interrogation.
According to Meghalaya DGP Idashisha Nongrang, Sonam allegedly orchestrated her husband’s murder and hired contract killers from Madhya Pradesh to carry out the crime. Three of the hired assailants have also been arrested. One more suspect is still at large.
Earlier, a local guide had informed police that the couple was seen in the company of three unidentified men on the day they disappeared. This clue shifted the investigation from a missing case to suspected homicide.
Chief Minister Conrad Sangma praised the swift police action in a post on X. “Within 7 days, a major breakthrough has been achieved by the Meghalaya Police in the Raja murder case. Three assailants from Madhya Pradesh have been arrested, the female has surrendered, and the operation is still on to catch one more assailant. Well done Meghalaya Police,” he wrote.
The motive behind the murder is still under investigation. Police are also probing Sonam’s connection to the assailants and the circumstances that led to the alleged contract killing.
