Maha Kumbh Stampede Investigators Probe Conspiracy Angle

The tragic stampede at the Maha Kumbh Mela in Prayagraj on January 29, which claimed 30 lives and injured more than 60, has taken a new turn. Investigators are now probing a potential conspiracy angle, analyzing the activity of over 16,000 mobile numbers active in the Sangam Nose area, where the incident occurred.

Sources reveal that many mobile numbers active at the stampede site have been switched off, raising suspicion. Investigators are using advanced data analysis techniques to trace these numbers and uncover possible links to any coordinated action.

Additionally, a facial recognition app is being employed to identify suspects from CCTV footage captured at the site. These efforts are aimed at determining whether the chaos was accidental or orchestrated by malicious intent.

In light of the tragedy, the Uttar Pradesh police have ramped up security measures, deploying additional reinforcements to the area. With the third Amrit Snan scheduled for February 5 (Vasant Panchami), authorities are on high alert to prevent further incidents.

The Maha Kumbh Mela, being held after 12 years, began on January 13 and will continue until February 26. Major upcoming events include the fourth Maha Snan on February 12 (Magh Purnima) and the final Maha Snan on February 26 (Maha Shivratri).

The Uttar Pradesh government has established a three-member judicial commission to investigate the stampede. The panel recently visited the incident site and has one month to complete its inquiry and submit a comprehensive report.

The Kumbh Mela, recognized as the largest spiritual gathering on the planet, is expected to attract a staggering 40 crore pilgrims. The January 29 stampede occurred during the auspicious Mauni Amavasya bathing festival, as crowds surged past barricades, leading to a devastating crush.

While most of the victims hailed from Bihar, the incident has raised concerns about crowd management and safety at such massive gatherings.
