Jammu Targeted in Rocket Barrage from Pakistan; S-400 Air Defence Intercepts All Missiles

Multiple rockets and drones targeted Jammu late Thursday, prompting India to activate its S-400 air defence system, which successfully intercepted all incoming threats.

In a major escalation, Pakistan launched eight missiles targeting key locations in Jammu, including the civil airport, Samba, RS Pura, and Arnia. All missiles were intercepted mid-air by India’s S-400 air defence system, officials confirmed.

A drone hit the Jammu airport, triggering an immediate military response. All Pakistani drones were brought down near Jammu University.

As a precautionary measure, air defence sirens were activated at Jammu airport and Pathankot Airbase. A complete blackout was enforced in the region, and mobile communication was briefly disrupted. Multiple explosions were heard across Jammu city.

Defence sources confirmed that air defence units were also active in Udhampur, Akhnoor, and Pathankot to intercept further potential threats.

In Punjab, Jalandhar and Hoshiarpur were plunged into darkness as authorities imposed a complete blackout amid heightened security concerns. Similarly, Rajasthan’s Jaisalmer, a city bordering Pakistan, went dark following reports of firing from the Pakistani side.
Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma convened an emergency high-level meeting at his residence on Thursday to address the escalating border tensions. The meeting was attended by the Chief Secretary, Home Secretary, Director General of Police, DG Intelligence, and ADG Law and Order.

In Uttarakhand, a cricket match between Punjab and Delhi Capitals at Dharamshala was called off after three of the four floodlight towers malfunctioned, adding to the chaos caused by the border situation.
India’s air defence systems demonstrated precision in countering Pakistani aggression. The downing of a Pakistani F-16 and multiple drones underscored the effectiveness of India’s multi-layered defence network. The Ministry of Defence has not yet issued an official statement, but sources indicate that the armed forces remain on high alert to respond to any further provocations.

The attack came a day after India conducted precision strikes on terror camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir under ‘Operation Sindoor’, killing nearly 100 terrorists. The strikes were in response to the April 22 terror attack in Pahalgam that killed 26 people.
