J&K Security Tops Agenda at PM Modi-Led Cabinet Committee Meeting After Pahalgam Attack

The Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS), chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, reviewed Jammu and Kashmir’s security status following the deadly Pahalgam terror attack that left 26 dead.

In a high-level meeting held at PM Modi’s official residence on Wednesday, the Cabinet Committee on Security placed a sharp focus on Jammu and Kashmir’s security landscape. The meeting follows the April 22 terror attack in Pahalgam, which claimed 25 Indian and one Nepali life and drew condemnation from across the world.

The CCS meeting comes amid escalating public demand and international scrutiny over India’s next move. Senior ministers including Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Home Minister Amit Shah, and External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar were in attendance.

Sources indicate that India is preparing a multifaceted response aimed at punishing the perpetrators and exposing Pakistan’s role in the attack. The suspension of the Indus Waters Treaty is already in effect, signalling a strong diplomatic posture.

A senior official said, “India is reaching out to global leaders, reminding them of Pakistan’s recurring involvement in international terrorism—from the 2005 London bombings to the 2024 Moscow concert attack.”

Apart from the CCS meeting, PM Modi chaired three other critical meetings on Wednesday: the Cabinet Committee on Political Affairs (CCPA), the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA), and a full Union Cabinet session.

A separate 45-minute meeting involving Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Home Minister Amit Shah, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, and Health Minister JP Nadda was also held to streamline action plans and policy decisions.

Officials are examining disturbing videos from the Pahalgam attack site and interviewing eyewitnesses as part of a comprehensive investigation. Sources told CNN-News18 that the government may soon release a compilation of visual and digital evidence linking Pakistan to the attack.

“We want the world to see the truth—unedited and undeniable,” said a senior government official, adding that footage from previous Pakistan-sponsored attacks may also be included in this dossier.

The Pahalgam terror strike is among the deadliest in recent years and occurred amid peaceful elections and improving economic indicators in Jammu and Kashmir. Its timing has prompted national outrage and triggered a series of security and foreign policy recalibrations.

Intelligence inputs suggest cross-border involvement, adding urgency to India’s global outreach and security preparedness.

The Centre is expected to announce further countermeasures later today during a cabinet briefing. Experts anticipate a robust mix of diplomatic offensives, strategic deterrence, and security escalation.
