Kannauj Railway Station : 20 Workers Trapped as Building Collapse
A tragic incident unfolded at the Kannauj railway station in Uttar Pradesh on Saturday as an under-construction roof slab collapsed, leaving several workers trapped beneath the debris. Officials confirmed that at least 23 people have been rescued so far, while approximately 25 others are feared to be trapped.
Rescue teams, including personnel from the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), police, and local authorities, rushed to the scene to manage the situation. The injured workers were immediately transported to nearby hospitals for treatment. Efforts are ongoing to locate and save those trapped under the collapsed structure.
Kannauj District Magistrate Shubhrant Kumar Shukl revealed that the accident occurred when the under-construction shuttering of the roof gave way, causing a portion of the building to collapse.
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has taken cognizance of the situation and directed officials to expedite rescue operations. He also instructed authorities to ensure that the injured receive proper medical care and treatment.
In a statement, CM Adityanath emphasized the importance of swift relief efforts and ordered officials to reach the site promptly to assist with rescue and recovery operations.
Eyewitnesses described the scene as chaotic, with workers scrambling for safety as the roof collapsed. Initial reports suggest that the incident may have been caused by structural weaknesses or improper construction practices. An investigation is expected to determine the exact cause of the collapse.
