Karnataka Ex-DGP Om Prakash Was Blinded With Chilli Powder, Then Fatally Stabbed; Wife, Daughter
Former Karnataka DGP Om Prakash was first attacked with chilli powder and then fatally stabbed by his wife Pallavi following a heated dispute, police sources revealed Monday.
As the probe into the murder of former top cop Om Prakash deepens, investigators have uncovered chilling new details. Sources told PTI that Pallavi, his wife, allegedly hurled chilli powder at his face before stabbing him multiple times with a knife, leaving him dead at the scene.
The incident reportedly took place following a prolonged argument between the couple at their home in Bengaluru’s upscale HSR Layout locality. The retired IPS officer, who served as Karnataka’s Director General of Police in 2015, was found in a pool of blood on the ground floor of his residence.
Soon after the murder, Pallavi is believed to have made a video call to a friend and confessed, saying, “I have killed the monster,” according to sources cited in the report.
Authorities have also learned that Pallavi has been under psychiatric treatment for schizophrenia and was on prescribed medication.
The incident may have stemmed from a longstanding property dispute over a land parcel in Dandeli, Karnataka. Months before the murder, Pallavi had attempted to file a police complaint and even staged a sit-in protest at the HSR Layout police station when her request was reportedly ignored.
In a significant development, police have also detained the couple’s daughter, Kriti, in connection with the case. The arrests follow allegations by Om Prakash’s son, Karthikesh, who accused his mother and sister of conspiring in his father’s murder.
Om Prakash was a 1981-batch IPS officer and a native of Champaran in Bihar. He held a Master’s degree in Geology and was appointed Karnataka’s DGP on March 1, 2015. Known for his administrative acumen, he had served in several high-ranking roles across the state before his retirement.
Police are continuing their investigation, including forensic analysis and interrogation of the suspects. Formal arrests are expected after initial questioning. A medical assessment of Pallavi’s mental condition is also likely to be ordered.
