Kharge Slams PM Modi at AICC Meet ” He Will Sell Country And Walk Way”
Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge on Wednesday launched a sharp offensive against Prime Minister Narendra Modi, alleging that the BJP-led government is “selling off the country” by handing over critical national assets to industrialist allies. Speaking at the All India Congress Committee (AICC) session in Ahmedabad — the party’s first such gathering in Gujarat in over 60 years — Kharge accused the government of weakening democratic institutions and compromising national security.
“Airports, ports, mining, media – everything is being handed over to industrialist friends. If this continues, Modi ji will sell off the entire country and walk away,” Kharge said while addressing party members and supporters.
He further alleged that reservations for Scheduled Castes (SCs), Scheduled Tribes (STs), and Other Backward Classes (OBCs) in government jobs are being systematically undermined. “Public assets are being sold off, and constitutional rights are being ignored,” he added.
The Congress chief also criticised the Prime Minister’s silence on the plight of Indian youth abroad. “The rich are settling overseas while our youth, who fled unemployment, are being returned to India in chains. Modi ji has no answers,” Kharge said, referring to recent reports of Indian nationals being deported under difficult conditions.
Taking direct aim at the ruling party’s narrative of post-2014 development, Kharge said, “The BJP claims that India started progressing only after 2014. But the truth is, the country’s foundations were laid long before by our leadership.”
In one of his most controversial remarks, Kharge alleged electoral malpractice, claiming that Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) are part of a broader design to rig elections in favour of the BJP. “No institution is safe under Modi ji — not even the Election Commission. The entire EVM system was designed to defeat the opposition,” he claimed.
He also noted that many developed countries have returned to ballot paper voting and suggested India consider doing the same. “There’s electoral fraud happening. While the world moves away from EVMs, we continue to use them. This is a fraud on democracy,” he said.
Kharge’s fiery speech sets the tone for the Congress party’s strategy in the run-up to the general elections. The AICC meet, held in Gujarat — Prime Minister Modi’s home state — is being viewed as a symbolic assertion of the Congress’s intent to reclaim political space in the region.
As political temperatures rise ahead of national polls, Kharge’s statements are expected to further intensify the BJP-Congress rivalry. The BJP has yet to respond to Kharge’s latest comments.
