Kolkata Law College Gang-Rape: Security Guard Arrested, Fourth To Be Held In Case

The security guard of South Kolkata Law College was arrested on Saturday in connection with the horrific gang-rape of a first-year student on campus, marking the fourth arrest in a case that has sparked widespread outrage. The guard is accused of being complicit in the crime that took place inside his own duty room.
The arrest comes a day after the harrowing details of the June 15 assault came to light. The 24-year-old survivor was allegedly raped for several hours by a former student and Trinamool Congress leader, Monojit Mishra, while two other current students stood by and watched.
According to the police complaint, the main gate of the college was locked during the assault, and the security guard was made to wait outside the very room where the crime was being committed. His arrest follows those of the prime accused, Mishra, and two other students, 19-year-old Zaib Ahmed and second-year student Pramit Mukherjee.
The survivor stated that she was attacked on the campus after she rejected a marriage proposal from Mishra, who is a practising criminal lawyer and an alumnus of the college. She was reportedly overpowered and taken to the guard’s room, where she was assaulted.
In her complaint, the woman alleged that the accused filmed the act and later used the videos to blackmail and threaten her into silence. The main gate of the college was locked during the incident, and despite the security guard’s presence, he did not intervene to help her, she alleged.
A medical examination of the survivor has corroborated her allegations, with police sources confirming evidence of forceful penetration, along with bite marks and scratches on her body. The case has sent shockwaves across the city and raised serious questions about the safety of students on educational campuses.
