Major Security Breach at Parliament as Man Scales Wall, Caught Near New Building

In a significant security breach at the heart of the capital, an intruder managed to enter the Parliament complex on Friday morning by scaling a wall with a ladder. The man was immediately apprehended by security personnel near the Garud Dwar of the new Parliament building and is currently being interrogated by multiple agencies.

According to sources, the incident occurred around 6:30 am. The intruder, identified as a resident of Uttar Pradesh who works at a shop in Gujarat, reportedly climbed the wall from the Rail Bhavan side. He appeared to be mentally disturbed at the time of his detention. During initial questioning, he told officials that he had been planning to go home and had even gone to the railway station but was unable to board a train, after which he made his way to the Parliament complex instead.

The intruder is being jointly questioned by the Parliament Security Wing, CISF, IB, and other central agencies before he is handed over to the local police for further investigation. The breach occurred just a day after the Monsoon session of Parliament was adjourned sine die, meaning no Members of Parliament were present on the premises at the time.

This incident has once again put the security of the high-profile complex under the scanner, coming just months after a major breach in December 2023. On the anniversary of the 2001 Parliament attack, two individuals had jumped into the Lok Sabha chamber from the public gallery and opened smoke canisters, causing widespread panic among the MPs present. Six people were arrested in connection with that case, though two of them were granted bail by the Delhi High Court in July this year.
