Former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh funeral is scheduled for today, December 28, 2024, at Delhi’s Nigambodh Ghat crematorium, with the ceremony set to commence at 11:45 AM.

This morning, his mortal remains were transported from his residence to the All India Congress Committee (AICC) headquarters, allowing party members and the public to pay their final respects.

Dignitaries, including Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, Congress Parliamentary Party Chairperson Sonia Gandhi, and senior leaders Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, have paid homage at the AICC headquarters.

International leaders have also expressed their condolences. U.S. President Joe Biden stated, “Jill and I join the people of India in grieving the loss of former Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh… During this difficult time, we recommit to this vision to which Prime Minister Singh dedicated his life.”

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau remarked, “Manmohan Singh’s passing is a loss for India and the world. As one of its longest-serving leaders, he transformed the country’s economy. He lifted millions out of poverty. He built strong bridges with the world — including Canada.”

The Delhi Traffic Police have issued advisories. They anticipate significant gatherings and potential disruptions in the city. The public is urged to plan their commutes accordingly.

Dr. Manmohan Singh’s tenure as Prime Minister, from 2004 to 2014, saw significant economic reforms. He made efforts to enhance India’s global standing. His passing marks the end of a notable chapter in India’s political history.
