Massive Fire in Dwarka: Father and Two Children Die After Leaping from 7th Floor

A devastating fire erupted on the seventh floor of Sabad Apartments in Dwarka Sector 13, Delhi, at around 10 am on Tuesday. In a bid to escape the flames, a father and his two young children jumped from the seventh floor—tragically, the children were declared dead at a nearby hospital, and the father is critically injured.

Eight fire tenders were immediately dispatched, and sky lifts have been employed in rescue efforts. Fire officials report that two to three individuals may still be trapped although their identities remain unknown.

Dense plumes of smoke continue to billow from the upper floors, as firefighters work to control the blaze and locate anyone still inside .

Delhi Fire Service (DFS) spokesperson stated the emergency call was received around 10:01 am, triggering an immediate response from eight fire engines and deployment of aerial rescue units.

Local residents say the family appeared trapped by fast‑spreading flames and smoke. In panic, the father and two children jumped from the building’s window. Locals rushed to aid by transporting them to a nearby hospital, where the two children were pronounced dead. The father’s condition is said to be serious .

A resident on the scene told reporters, “Huge smoke could be seen coming out… Firefighters are working tirelessly to bring the fire under control and rescue those trapped”.

Delhi has witnessed a concerning rise in fire-related deaths this year: from January to May, 55 lives were lost—up 30% compared to 36 in the same period in 2023—according to official data. The DFS has previously stressed the need for fire safety audits and active compliance across high-rise dwellings.

Residents and safety advocates are now calling for urgent action, including mandatory installation of smoke detectors, regular fire drills, and improved evacuation protocols for residential complexes.

This tragedy underscores ongoing concerns about fire safety compliance in Delhi’s residential buildings, especially in high-density sectors like Dwarka. For now, the fire continues to burn, while rescue teams race to locate and save any other residents who may still be inside.
