Massive Search Operation in J&K’s Kathua After Woman Spots Pahalgam Attack Suspects
Security forces launched a large-scale search in J&K’s Kathua after a woman claimed to have seen four suspects linked to the deadly Pahalgam terror attack that killed 26.
A massive search and combing operation was launched in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kathua district on Friday following a local woman’s claim of having seen four terrorists allegedly involved in the Pahalgam terror attack earlier this week. The Jammu and Kashmir Police’s Special Operations Group (SOG) is leading the operation, which is currently underway, officials confirmed.
Meanwhile, similar operations are being conducted in Pulwama and Baramulla districts, as the region remains on high alert following the brutal killing of 26 civilians in Pahalgam.
In Baramulla’s Pattan area, security forces carried out a search operation targeting anti-national elements associated with the banned Jammu and Kashmir National Front (JKNF).
The search at the residence of Ghulam Mohammad Ganaie was conducted in the presence of an executive magistrate. According to police, “Incriminating material linked to the banned outfit JKNF was recovered and seized for further legal action.”
Baramulla Police confirmed that the material collected during the raid has been documented as evidence, and investigations are ongoing to trace the wider terror network in the region.
On Tuesday, terrorists opened fire on a group of tourists in the Baisaran meadow near Pahalgam, killing 26 men in one of the deadliest civilian attacks in the valley in recent years. The Resistance Front (TRF), a proxy of the Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), has claimed responsibility.
Since then, India has launched a multi-pronged crackdown against suspected terror operatives and their ecosystem in Jammu and Kashmir. The Centre has also enforced sweeping diplomatic actions against Pakistan.
In response to the cross-border link in the attack, India revoked all visas issued to Pakistani nationals and shut down the Attari-Wagah land transit post. The Indus Waters Treaty of 1960 has been suspended.
In retaliation, Pakistan has put the 1972 Simla Agreement on hold and expelled Indian diplomatic personnel, worsening bilateral ties that were already on a knife’s edge.
With multiple search operations underway across Jammu and Kashmir, security forces are stepping up efforts to dismantle terror infrastructure and apprehend those responsible for the Pahalgam massacre. Investigations are active, and further action is expected in the coming days.
