Bhiwandi Tragedy: Woman, 3 Daughters Found Hanging in Suspected Mass Suicide Near Mumbai

In a heartbreaking incident near Mumbai, a 32-year-old woman and her three minor daughters were found hanging in their Bhiwandi home, in a suspected case of mass suicide.
The tragic incident took place on Saturday morning in Fene village, Bhiwandi, when Lalji Bharti, a power loom worker, returned home from his night shift and found the bodies of his wife and daughters hanging inside their room.
The deceased have been identified as Punita Bharti (32), and her daughters Nandini (12), Neha (7), and Anu (4). The family lived in a small chawl room and reportedly did not have any known history of domestic disputes or mental health issues.
Bharti told police he reached home around 9 am and repeatedly knocked, but received no response. Peeking through a small window, he discovered the horrifying sight of his entire family hanging from the ceiling.
Police officials reached the site soon after and conducted a ‘panchnama’ before shifting the bodies to Late Indira Gandhi Smriti Upazila Hospital for post-mortem examination.
Authorities said a handwritten note was recovered from the scene. “The note reportedly stated that no one should be held responsible for the deaths,” an official with the Bhiwandi police told the media, requesting anonymity as investigations are ongoing.
Senior police officers said they are not ruling out any possibilities and a thorough probe is underway. “We are questioning neighbours, checking CCTV footage and phone records to understand the exact sequence of events,” the officer added.
This incident comes amid growing concern over mental health and suicides in India, especially among women and children. Experts have called for improved community outreach, counselling services, and family support systems to prevent such tragedies.
The Bhiwandi police have registered an accidental death report and have not ruled out any angle, including mental health issues or economic distress.
