Exciting News for Mumbaikars : BKC-Colaba Metro Line 3 Phase 2A to Open by March 2025!

Mumbai’s residents are in for a commuting breakthrough as the Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation (MMRC) gears up to launch the much-anticipated Phase 2A of Metro Line 3 from Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC) to Colaba. Scheduled for completion by the end of March 2025, this extension promises to revolutionize travel within the city.

The construction of this vital stretch has reached an impressive 93.1% completion, with 98.9% of station work already done. The remaining tasks involve finalizing architectural details and system installations, which are expected to wrap up soon. This news comes from Mumbai Live, highlighting the city’s commitment to enhancing its public transport system.

This new phase will not only connect two major business and cultural hubs but also help decongest existing metro lines. By providing a direct link between Colaba, known for its historical significance and bustling tourist spots, and BKC, Mumbai’s commercial heart, it will significantly reduce travel time and enhance connectivity.

In October 2024, Mumbai witnessed the inauguration of the first phase of Line 3 by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, connecting Aarey Colony JVLR to BKC. This initial segment includes 10 stations: BKC, Bandra Colony, Santacruz, CSMIA T1, Sahar Road, CSMIA T2, Marol Naka, Andheri, SEEPZ, and Aarey Colony JVLR. These stations serve pivotal points in the city, including both terminals of the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport, and intersect with other metro lines like Line 1 at Marol Naka.

Currently, MMRC operates 96 daily services on this route, making it an essential artery for the city’s transport network. With the addition of the BKC-Colaba stretch, Metro Line 3 will further expand, offering more convenience to Mumbaikars and tourists alike. The focus now is to ensure a seamless transition into full operations, providing a sigh of relief for those navigating Mumbai’s often chaotic traffic.
