Maharashtra State Legislature Session To Start From March 3, Budget on March 10

The Maharashtra Legislature’s Budget Session to begin on March 3 and wrap up on March 26 in Mumbai, and on March 10 when the State Budget will be presented. The announcement came after a key meeting today at Vidhan Bhavan, where top state leaders hashed out the schedule for the upcoming three-week session.

The Advisory Committee on Legislative Business, overseeing both the Assembly and Council, confirmed the dates. Legislative Assembly Speaker Rahul Narvekar and Council Speaker Ram Shinde led the meeting, joined by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, Deputy CMs Eknath Shinde and Ajit Pawar, and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Chandrakant Patil. Deputy Chairman Neelam Gorhe tuned in via video conference, while MLAs like Chhagan Bhujbal and Jitendra Awhad rounded out the lineup.

On March 10, Deputy CM Ajit Pawar, who holds the finance portfolio, will table the 2025 State Budget in both houses. The session won’t pause for holidays—business will roll on even on March 8, a public holiday. However, lawmakers will get a breather on March 13 for Holi, as decided today.

CM Fadnavis used the moment to spotlight a flagship project: housing for 15.1 lakh families. “Under PM Modi’s guidance, we’re investing Rs 70,000 crore to build homes,” he said. “With solar energy added, it’ll hit Rs 1 lakh crore.” He praised Rural Development Minister Jaykumar Gore and district teams for their work but warned, “This is just the start.” Funds will roll out in phases, with geo-tagging to ensure every house gets built right.

This marks the first major session for the Fadnavis government since the Mahayuti alliance—BJP, Shiv Sena, and NCP—swept the November 2024 polls with 248 seats. The BJP alone clinched 132, including a strong showing in Mumbai. The budget will likely focus on urban and rural needs, with housing high on the list after last year’s Rs 8 lakh crore state budget set a high bar.

The three-week session will see heated debates. The opposition, led by Shiv Sena (UBT)’s 15 MLAs and Congress’s 13, is expected to challenge the BJP on promises like jobs and infrastructure.
