Mumbai on High Alert After X Post Warns of Riots, Bomb Blasts During Eid 2025
Mumbai Police have ramped up security across the city following a social media post on X warning of potential Hindu-Muslim riots, arson, and bomb blasts during Eid-ul-Fitr celebrations, expected on March 31. The alert, which singled out areas like Dongri and alleged involvement of “illegal Rohingya/Bangladeshi/Pakistani infiltrators,” has put law enforcement on edge ahead of the festival.
The warning surfaced on X on Thursday morning, tagging Navi Mumbai Police and urging Mumbai authorities to stay vigilant. It claimed that on March 31-April 1, during Eid, disturbances could erupt in Dongri and other areas. Navi Mumbai Police responded, stating, “Thank you for contacting Navi Mumbai Police, please send your mobile number for further information regarding your tweet.” After being alerted by their Navi Mumbai counterparts, Mumbai Police swiftly increased security measures across the metropolis, with a focus on sensitive zones.
Patrolling has been intensified in Dongri and other key areas, with no suspicious activities reported so far, an official confirmed. “Apart from Mumbai Police personnel, the Crime Branch, Anti-Terrorism Squad, and Special Branch are also on heightened vigil,” the official said. The deployment aims to ensure safety as the city prepares for Eid-ul-Fitr, marking the end of Ramadan with the sighting of the crescent moon.

A parallel alert emerged on X, cautioning about similar threats in Delhi’s Chandni Chowk, Jama Masjid, and Jahangpuri areas during Eid. The post again pointed to “illegal Rohingya/Bangladeshi/Pakistani infiltrators” as potential instigators. Authorities in the national capital have yet to comment officially, but the coincidence of warnings has raised concerns. The timing aligns with the expected moon sighting on March 30, signaling the start of Shawwal, the 10th Islamic month.
Eid-ul-Fitr holds deep cultural and religious importance, celebrated after Ramadan with prayers, feasts, and charity. The moon sighting, a tradition rooted in Islamic history, determines the festival’s date. Prophet Muhammad is said to have awaited the crescent moon’s visibility to announce the new month, a practice still followed today. This year, India is likely to observe Eid on March 31, pending confirmation of the moon sighting on March 30 evening.
A Mumbai Police official assured the public that all necessary steps are being taken to maintain peace. “We are monitoring the situation closely and have bolstered security to prevent any untoward incidents,” the official stated, emphasizing proactive measures across the city. Navi Mumbai Police’s request for the poster’s contact details suggests an investigation into the source of the threat is underway.
With Eid-ul-Fitr just days away, Mumbai Police remain on high alert, focusing on crowd-prone areas and religious sites. The cyber cell may also trace the X post’s origin to assess its credibility. Residents are urged to stay calm and report any suspicious activity as authorities work to ensure a peaceful celebration. Updates on security arrangements and the moon sighting are expected over the weekend.
