Mumbai Shocker: 12-Year-Old Girl Gangraped by 5 Men in Jogeshwari, All Accused Arrested

A chilling crime has stunned Mumbai after a 12-year-old girl was gangraped by five men in the Jogeshwari area on February 26. The horrific incident came to light the next day when the victim was found in distress at Dadar railway station, sparking swift action from the police who arrested all five accused within hours.

The assault took place in Sanjaynagar, Jogeshwari East, where the girl lived. Reports say she left home after a family argument and headed to the local station. There, she encountered a known person who lured her to a room where four other men waited. The group sexually assaulted her before dumping her near Dadar station, roughly 15 kilometers away, to fend for herself.

On February 27, railway police spotted the girl on platform 12, visibly shaken. “She was in a bad state, alone and scared,” an officer told PTI. They handed her over to Jogeshwari police, who registered a case under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita for rape. By Thursday, all five suspects were in custody—two nabbed at Dadar station itself, hinting they may have lingered nearby.

The police are digging deeper, collecting evidence like CCTV footage from both locations and witness statements to build a watertight case. “We’re ensuring justice for the victim,” a senior Jogeshwari officer said. The girl, now under medical care, is receiving support as her family grapples with the trauma.

This isn’t Mumbai’s first brush with such horror. In December 2024, a 15-year-old was gangraped in a chawl, with six arrested. Maharashtra reported 2,577 POCSO cases in 2023 alone, per NCRB data, spotlighting a grim trend. Posts on X called it “Mumbai’s darkest hour,” urging tougher action.

The accused face severe charges, with POCSO carrying up to life imprisonment for child rape. As investigations continue, this case has reignited calls for better safety measures in Mumbai, a city once dubbed India’s safest for women but now facing unsettling questions.
