Tesla, the electric vehicle giant led by Elon Musk, is gearing up to launch its first showroom in India at Maker Maxity in Mumbai’s Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC). Sources told Hindustan Times that the 3,000 sq ft space on the ground floor of a commercial tower will cost Tesla ₹35 lakh per month in rent. This hefty price tag could make it the highest showroom rental deal in India’s auto industry yet.

BKC is known as India’s priciest commercial hub, and Maker Maxity—a mixed-use development—offers a prime spot with a few parking spaces included. Details of the lease are still under wraps, and HT.com has reached out to Maker Maxity for confirmation.

Tesla isn’t stopping at Mumbai. The company has also finalized a 4,000 sq ft showroom in Delhi’s Aerocity, near the Indira Gandhi International Airport, at a monthly rent of ₹25 lakh. This space, located in a Brookfield property, marks Tesla’s second big move in India. Brookfield Properties hasn’t commented, and the agreement details remain unavailable.
These developments follow Tesla’s renewed push into India, the world’s third-largest auto market. After pausing plans in 2022, the company restarted its efforts late last year.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s meeting with Musk in the U.S. last month—discussing tech and mobility—added momentum. Tesla also posted job listings for 13 roles in India, hinting at a launch soon.

The Mumbai and Delhi showrooms will showcase Tesla’s imported electric vehicles, like the Model 3 and Model Y, starting at around ₹21 lakh ($25,000). While local manufacturing isn’t confirmed, India’s recent EV policy cuts import duties from 110% to 15% for companies investing here, which could benefit Tesla.

With BKC’s premium vibe and Aerocity’s strategic location, Tesla is targeting high-traffic zones to attract buyers. As India’s EV market grows, these showrooms signal a major step for Musk’s vision. Stay tuned for updates as Tesla rolls into India!
