‘No Caste, No Bribe’: Amit Shah Says UP Police Recruitment Done With Full Transparency
Union Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah on Sunday asserted that the recent recruitment of over 60,000 constables into the Uttar Pradesh Police was conducted with complete transparency, free from any influence of caste, recommendations, or bribery.
Addressing the newly recruited constables at a state-level appointment letter distribution ceremony in Lucknow, Shah praised the Yogi Adityanath-led government for ushering in a merit-based system.
“Till date, recruitments in the Police force were being done on the basis of caste. But today, all of you have been appointed because of transparency through technology,” Shah said, addressing the massive gathering. “I am confident that you will move forward with the mantra of security, service and sensitivity.”
The Home Minister highlighted that the new recruits represent every section of society and all regions of the state. “Today is the most auspicious day in the lives of the youth sitting in front of me because today more than 60,000 youth representing every caste, community and district of Uttar Pradesh are going to become an active part of the largest police force of India,” he stated.
Shah drew a sharp contrast between the state’s law and order situation before and after the BJP came to power in 2017. “The state’s law and order were continuously deteriorating. But after the BJP government formed in the state in 2017, Yogi Adityanath became the Chief Minister, Uttar Pradesh Police again started moving toward achieving new heights,” he said.
He noted that police modernization, which was not visible between 2014 and 2017, gained significant momentum after 2017 under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and CM Adityanath.
The Home Minister also spoke about the Centre’s efforts to reform the country’s criminal justice system through changes to the Indian Penal Code, Indian Evidence Act, and Civil Defence Act. “I am telling you about these three laws today, that in five years, such a situation will arise in the country that if any FIR is lodged, the citizen will get justice up to the Supreme Court in three years,” he predicted.
The Uttar Pradesh Police Constable Recruitment Exam 2024, held in August last year, was one of the largest such exercises in the country, aiming to fill over 60,000 vacancies. The UP Police also hailed the drive as one of the most transparent and technology-driven recruitment processes conducted in India.
