In a move that has drawn widespread attention, Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his efforts to bridge the “dil ki doori” (distance of hearts) and “Dilli ki doori” (distance from Delhi) during the inauguration of the Sonamarg Tunnel. The praise is particularly significant given Abdullah’s recent dissatisfaction with the INDIA bloc, a coalition of opposition parties. Abdullah called for the alliance to be dissolved post-Lok Sabha elections unless its purpose extended to Assembly polls. Last week, Abdullah remarked, “The alliance lacks clarity and coordination, especially post-elections. If it’s only for Lok Sabha elections, end it. If it’s to continue for Assembly polls, we need better cooperation.”
