Pakistan Moves Troops to Border; Indian Forces on High Alert Amid Escalation : Govt
In a major escalation, Pakistan has begun moving troops to forward areas along the border, prompting India to place its armed forces on high alert, government officials said Saturday.
The Indian government on Saturday confirmed that Pakistan has started mobilising troops along the border — the most significant military build-up since the 1999 Kargil conflict. Indian armed forces are in a heightened state of operational readiness in response.
Wing Commander Vyomika Singh and Colonel Sofiya Qureshi, who addressed the media on behalf of the government, said the troop movement signals an intention by Pakistan to escalate hostilities.
“The Pakistani military has been observed to be moving their troops to border areas, indicating offensive intent,” said Colonel Qureshi. “However, the Indian armed forces remain in a high state of operational readiness.”
India earlier carried out precision strikes on four Pakistani airbases after Islamabad launched ‘Operation Bunyan Ul Marsoos’ targeting military sites in four Indian states. The operation, named after a Quranic phrase meaning “unbreakable wall,” involved the use of drones, long-range missiles, loitering munitions, and fighter jets.
The attacks hit multiple military installations in Jammu and Kashmir, Punjab, Rajasthan, and Gujarat. Indian sources said all incoming threats were effectively neutralised.
“All hostile actions have been effectively countered and responded to appropriately,” Colonel Qureshi said.
The fresh build-up follows three days of heightened aggression by Pakistan, which included missile strikes, drone attacks, and airspace incursions. The Indian defence ministry has maintained that no significant damage was inflicted on Indian military infrastructure, and retaliatory strikes have imposed “heavy costs” on Pakistan’s armed forces.
India had also earlier intercepted a Fatah-II ballistic missile aimed at New Delhi, which was brought down over Sirsa, Haryana.
With troop mobilisation now underway, Indian forces are closely monitoring developments along the Line of Control (LoC) and the International Border (IB). Government officials reiterated that India seeks peace but will respond decisively to any hostile action.
“India does not want war, but any misadventure will be met with a calibrated and strong response,” a senior defence source said.
