Pakistan Opens Fire Along LoC Again; Indian Army Retaliates Amid Soaring Tensions
Pakistani forces fired at Indian Army posts along the LoC in Kashmir on Saturday, prompting immediate retaliation. No casualties were reported in the second such incident in 48 hours.
Pakistani Army initiated “unprovoked small arms fire” across multiple posts on the Line of Control (LoC) during the night of April 25-26, Indian defence officials confirmed on Saturday. The Indian Army responded “appropriately”, neutralizing the threat.
This marks the second consecutive day of ceasefire violation by Pakistan. The firing is being viewed as a possible attempt to test Indian response levels following the recent Pahalgam terror attack that killed 26 civilians.
“Unprovoked small arms firing was carried out by multiple Pakistani posts. Indian troops responded in kind. No casualties reported,” said an official statement.
Military sources told that the firing appeared to be speculative, potentially aimed at probing India’s border vigilance. Pakistan’s provocation comes amid growing public and political pressure within India for retaliatory action against terror camps across the border.
Friday’s firing had a similar pattern, with no injuries reported. However, the frequency of violations has raised concerns over a potential escalation in border hostilities.
The flare-up follows a deadly Islamist terrorist attack in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pahalgam earlier this week, claimed by The Resistance Front — a proxy of Lashkar-e-Taiba. The attack triggered strong responses from New Delhi.
India responded by suspending the 1960 Indus Waters Treaty, revoking visa exemptions for Pakistani nationals, closing the Attari land transit post, and reducing diplomatic staff at both High Commissions.
Pakistan reacted sharply, warning that disrupting river flows would amount to an “act of war” and threatened to suspend the 1972 Simla Agreement, which underpins the current Line of Control.
With multiple ceasefire violations and strained diplomatic channels, security experts warn of a prolonged phase of instability along the LoC. Defence analysts suggest heightened alertness along India’s western border may be necessary as summer infiltration attempts could increase.
India has reiterated its commitment to defending every inch of its territory. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has vowed to track and eliminate every terrorist and their supporters involved in the Pahalgam massacre.
