Pakistan Violates Ceasefire Hours After Truce; Drones, Shelling Reported in J&K.

Pakistan violated the ceasefire agreement within hours of its announcement, triggering drone sightings and heavy shelling across Jammu and Kashmir, including Srinagar, Rajouri and Baramulla.

In a swift escalation, Pakistan on Saturday violated the newly announced ceasefire agreement with India, launching artillery shelling and drone incursions across the International Border (IB) and Line of Control (LoC). Security forces reported explosions in Srinagar and multiple ceasefire breaches in Akhnoor, RS Pura, Rajouri, and Palanwalla sectors.

A high alert has been issued across Jammu and Kashmir. Two drones were shot down—one in Rajasthan’s Pokhran and another in Baramulla—while multiple suspicious UAVs were sighted in Rajouri. Blackouts were enforced in Srinagar and Baramulla in response to security threats.

Former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah took to social media shortly after the attacks. “What the hell just happened to the ceasefire? Explosions heard across Srinagar!!!” he tweeted, highlighting the sudden breakdown of the agreement.

Air raid sirens were activated in Jammu’s Samba district as drones were spotted near civilian areas. The Indian Air Defence and Border Security Force (BSF) units were immediately mobilised.

Sources in the security establishment confirmed that the BSF and Indian Army have been directed to respond with “full force” to any future ceasefire violations. “We were prepared for duplicity. Orders are clear—any aggression will be met with overwhelming response,” a senior defence official told The Headliner.

The fresh violations come merely hours after both nations publicly acknowledged a ceasefire, following backchannel talks between DGMOs and a statement by US President Donald Trump lauding the peace effort.

The ceasefire, announced earlier Saturday, was brokered after India’s precision strikes crippled several Pakistani airbases in response to the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack. The US played a supporting role by applying pressure on Islamabad via the IMF bailout conditions.

Despite public announcements from both New Delhi and Islamabad, the rapid violation has raised concerns over Pakistan’s intentions and the durability of any peace agreement.
