Pakistani National Shot Dead by BSF While Attempting To Cross Border in Punjab
A Pakistani national was shot dead by BSF personnel in Punjab’s Ferozepur sector on Thursday after attempting to cross the International Border despite repeated warnings.
The Border Security Force (BSF) on Thursday opened fire on a Pakistani national who tried to infiltrate Indian territory near the Ferozepur sector in Punjab. The individual, according to BSF officials, was spotted advancing toward the border fencing under the cover of darkness.
“Despite multiple warnings, the individual did not stop and kept moving forward, compelling our troops to open fire,” the BSF said in a statement. The body of the intruder has been recovered, and further investigation is underway to ascertain the motive and identity.
This incident is the latest in a series of attempted border crossings by Pakistani nationals amid rising tensions between the two countries following India’s cross-border strikes under Operation Sindoor.
Earlier this week, on Sunday, another Pakistani national was apprehended by BSF troops in the Gurdaspur sector of Punjab. Identified as Muhammad Hussain, he was found carrying Pakistani currency and a national identity card. He has been handed over to Punjab Police for further investigation.
In a separate incident last week, a Pakistani Ranger was caught attempting to cross the border in Rajasthan. Initial assessments suggest the entry may have been for espionage or reconnaissance. The individual remains in BSF custody and is undergoing questioning.
India’s recent high-precision strikes on terror infrastructure in Pakistan, in response to the Pahalgam terror attack that killed 26, have led to heightened security across the border regions. Operation Sindoor targeted nine terror camps operated by Lashkar-e-Taiba, Jaish-e-Mohammed, and Hizbul Mujahideen.
Since then, authorities have reported increased infiltration attempts and cross-border provocations, prompting security forces to maintain high alert along the IB and LoC.
The Ministry of Home Affairs has directed states and border forces to stay vigilant and act swiftly in response to any infiltration attempt. Officials also highlighted the importance of intelligence coordination to counter espionage threats and terrorist infiltration.
Security along Punjab and Rajasthan sectors of the International Border has been further tightened, with additional surveillance deployments.
