‘Pakistani Voter IDs, Weapons Found’: Amit Shah Hits Back at Chidambaram Over Pahalgam Terrorists

Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Tuesday fiercely rebutted former Home Minister P. Chidambaram’s doubts about the origin of the Pahalgam attackers, declaring in the Lok Sabha that the government possesses “solid proof” they were Pakistani nationals. Shah presented evidence, including Pakistani voter IDs and weapons, to counter the Congress leader’s suggestions that the perpetrators could have been “homegrown terrorists.”
Speaking during a charged debate on ‘Operation Sindoor’, Shah directly addressed Chidambaram’s controversial remarks. “Chidambaram ji raised the question – what is the proof that the terrorists came from Pakistan? I want to ask him what he will get by saving Pakistan,” Shah stated. “We have their voter ID numbers. The rifles and cartridges used were made in Pakistan.”
The Home Minister accused the senior Congress leader of providing a “clean chit to Pakistan in front of the entire world.” Shah added, “Yesterday they (Congress) were asking us where the terrorists came from and who was responsible for it. Of course, it is our responsibility as we are in power.”
The exchange followed comments made by Chidambaram in an interview with The Quint on Sunday, where he questioned the assumption that the terrorists behind the April 22 attack came from Pakistan. “Have they identified the terrorists, where they came from? For all we know they could be homegrown terrorists. Why do you assume that they came from Pakistan? There is no evidence of that,” Chidambaram had said. He later clarified that his remarks were taken out of context.
During the same discussion, Shah announced the success of ‘Operation Mahadev,’ a joint operation by the Army, CRPF, and Jammu and Kashmir Police that eliminated the three Lashkar-e-Taiba terrorists responsible for the Pahalgam massacre. The terrorists were neutralized near Srinagar on Monday.
