Parliament To Hold 32-Hour Debate On ‘Op Sindoor’ Next Week; Rajnath Singh To Initiate Discussion

Indian Parliament is set to hold a marathon 32-hour special discussion on “Operation Sindoor” next week, with 16 hours allocated in each House for the high-stakes debate. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh will initiate the discussion in the Lok Sabha on Monday, July 28, while the Rajya Sabha will take up the matter on Tuesday, July 29.
The decision to hold the extensive debate follows persistent demands from the Opposition since the beginning of the Monsoon Session. Opposition parties have been seeking a detailed discussion on the military operation, which was India’s response to the deadly Pahalgam terror attack.
Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju confirmed the schedule, stating that the government had agreed to the Opposition’s demand for a discussion on the critical national security issue. The debate in the Rajya Sabha is scheduled for Tuesday. Prime Minister is expected to participate in the discussions in both Houses.
The Opposition has been disrupting parliamentary proceedings, insisting on a debate on “Operation Sindoor” before any other legislative business is taken up. Their demands for discussion also include the claims made by US President Donald Trump that he had brokered a ceasefire between India and Pakistan following the military action.
The government has stated its readiness for the debate, with sources indicating they are prepared to present their case with “full aggression”. High-level briefings involving Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and the top military leadership have been conducted in preparation.
The first week of the Monsoon Session was almost entirely washed out due to protests and disruptions by Opposition MPs over this and other issues, including the revision of electoral rolls in Biha
