PM Modi Arrives in Canada for G7 Summit Amid Escalating Global Tensions
PM Modi landed in Canada late Monday and is scheduled to take part in the G7 Outreach Summit on Tuesday afternoon in the resort town of Kananaskis, Alberta. The summit, hosted by Canada, brings together the world’s leading economies — the US, UK, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, and the EU — with invited leaders from countries including India, Brazil, South Africa, South Korea, Mexico, and Australia.
According to the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), PM Modi’s participation will focus on “protecting global communities, advancing energy security and digital transition, and securing future partnerships.” This marks his first multilateral engagement since the conclusion of Operation Sindoor, a counterterrorism mission conducted in Pakistan last month.
Modi is expected to hold bilateral meetings with Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney and several other global leaders. The summit comes at a critical moment as the Israel-Iran conflict enters its fourth day, with missile exchanges, rising civilian casualties, and warnings of further escalation. The Ukraine-Russia war also remains a central agenda item, with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy attending as a special guest.
The MEA, in a post on X, wrote, “Heading to Canada for the G7 Summit,” confirming the Prime Minister’s arrival. Earlier in Cyprus, Modi met with President Nikos Christodoulides and thanked the nation for its “exceptional warmth and hospitality.” The two leaders held extensive talks on bilateral and global cooperation.
Public attention on social media has been high, with many highlighting India’s increasing role on the global stage. Supporters praised the Prime Minister’s diplomatic outreach, while critics questioned the effectiveness of India’s position on complex geopolitical issues.
Following the conclusion of the G7 meetings, PM Modi is scheduled to fly to Zagreb, Croatia, on Tuesday evening, completing the final leg of his international tour.
