PM Modi Flags Off Pravasi Bharatiya Express: Advocates Peace Inspired by Buddha

Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the 18th Pravasi Bharatiya Divas (PBD) Convention in Bhubaneswar, Odisha, highlighting the enduring bond between India and its global diaspora. Organized in collaboration with the Odisha state government, the three-day event from January 8 to 10 celebrates the contributions of Indian expatriates worldwide.
PM Modi arrived at Bhubaneswar airport. He was warmly received by Odisha Governor Hari Babu Kambhampati. Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi and Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan also greeted him. The opening ceremony set the stage for a vibrant celebration of cultural pride. It also focused on economic collaboration. Additionally, it highlighted the shared heritage between India and its overseas communities.
During the inaugural address, PM Modi emphasized the significance of the Pravasi Bharatiya Divas in fostering a deeper connection between India and its diaspora. “This platform strengthens the bond between India and its people abroad. It is a symbol of unity, a bridge between the past and the future,” he remarked.
The Prime Minister noted that the convention holds special significance. It coincides with the festive season in India. This includes the upcoming Mahakumbh in Prayagraj and festivals like Makar Sankranti and Magh Bihu. He further highlighted that the event carries an additional layer of importance. This is because it occurred after the birth centenary of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee. His vision inspired the PBD initiative.

In his keynote speech, PM Modi called for a future defined by peace and collaboration, saying, “The future is not in war; it is in Buddha.” The Prime Minister’s statement underscored India’s commitment to values of harmony and global unity, drawing from the teachings of Mahatma Gandhi and Lord Buddha.
