PM Modi Invokes Chola Legacy in TN, Cites ‘Operation Sindoor’ as Warning to Terrorists

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday celebrated the legacy of the Chola dynasty in Tamil Nadu, linking their historic diplomatic and maritime strength to modern India’s power. Speaking at a festival honouring emperor Rajendra Chola I, he issued a stern warning against terrorism, citing “Operation Sindoor” as an example of India’s decisive response to any attack on its sovereignty.
Addressing a large gathering at the Gangaikonda Cholapuram Temple in Ariyalur district, the Prime Minister said he prayed for the welfare of 140 crore Indians. He lauded the Chola emperors, stating, “Rajaraja Chola and Rajendra Chola symbolise India’s identity and pride. The history and legacy of the Chola Empire reflect the strength and true potential of our great nation.”
PM Modi highlighted the Cholas’ expansive diplomatic and trade relations with Sri Lanka, the Maldives, and Southeast Asia. He noted a personal coincidence, mentioning his return from a visit to the Maldives just a day before attending the event in Tamil Nadu.
Transitioning to national security, the Prime Minister reiterated India’s zero-tolerance policy towards terrorism. “During Operation Sindoor, the world has seen that if anyone attacks India, how we can respond,” he stated emphatically. He stressed that the operation, which targeted terrorist networks, sent a clear message that “no place is safe for these terrorists and terrorism.”
The Prime Minister also touched upon the cultural and spiritual significance of the event, which celebrated the Aadi Thiruvathirai festival. He praised music maestro Ilaiyaraaja for creating a divine atmosphere with his devotional music, connecting the chants of ‘Om Namah Shivaya’ in Tamil Nadu to his own constituency, Kashi.
The event marked a significant outreach by the Prime Minister in Tamil Nadu, blending cultural heritage with a strong message on national pride and security.
