PM Modi Praises Coldplay Concerts, Advocates for ‘Concert Economy’ in India
Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his admiration for the “fabulous pictures” of the Coldplay concerts in Mumbai and Ahmedabad during his address at the ‘Utkarsh Odisha – Make in Odisha Conclave 2025’ in Bhubaneswar. Highlighting the massive potential for live concerts in India, Modi emphasized the need for states and the private sector to invest in infrastructure and skills to nurture what he called the “concert economy.”
The PM pointed out India’s rich heritage in music and dance, which makes it a significant consumer of concerts. “Today, the concert economy sector is also growing in India. There are many possibilities for the concert economy,” he noted, observing the rise in live events over the last decade.
His comments come on the heels of the British rock band Coldplay’s successful five-show stint in India as part of their Music of The Spheres World Tour. The concerts, held in Mumbai, Navi Mumbai, and Ahmedabad, were sold out, showcasing India’s growing appetite for international music acts. The last concert at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad was particularly noteworthy.

Coldplay’s lead singer, Chris Martin, engaged with the audience by attempting to communicate in local languages like Hindi, Marathi, and Gujarati, adding a personal touch to the performances. His shoutouts to Bollywood star Shah Rukh Khan and cricket star Jasprit Bumrah, who attended the Ahmedabad show, further bridged the gap between international stars and local fans.
PM Modi’s advocacy for a concert economy reflects an understanding of the cultural and economic benefits such events can bring, fostering job creation, tourism, and cultural exchange. By encouraging better infrastructure and skill development, Modi envisions India not just as a consumer but as a hub for global music and entertainment events.
