In a fiery response during the Motion of Thanks to the President’s address in Lok Sabha, Prime Minister Narendra Modi took a sharp jab at Rahul Gandhi’s recent remark calling President Droupadi Murmu’s speech “boring.” PM Modi accused Gandhi of being entertained by photo opportunities in slum areas while dismissing serious discussions about poverty in Parliament.

PM Modi’s retort came after Rahul Gandhi, during an election rally in Delhi’s Seelampur, a region known for its slum areas, criticized the President’s address. Modi said, “Those who have photo sessions in the huts of the poor, for their own entertainment, will find the mention of the poor in Parliament boring.” This statement was not only a direct attack on Gandhi but also a critique of what Modi perceives as the opposition’s superficial engagement with poverty issues.

Addressing the Congress’s allegations of BJP trying to subvert the Constitution, Modi accused the party of misunderstanding both the Constitution and the unity of India. He criticized Gandhi’s claim of fighting the “Indian state,” labeling such rhetoric as the language of “urban naxals,” suggesting it was an irresponsible narrative that undermines national integrity.

Modi contrasted the Congress’s long-standing slogan “gareebi hatao” (remove poverty) with BJP’s achievements, stating that under BJP’s governance, 25 crore people have been lifted out of poverty in the last decade. He emphasized the government’s commitment to delivering promises made to the underprivileged, showcasing BJP’s efforts as more than just rhetoric.

With elections looming in Delhi, Modi also took aim at AAP leader Arvind Kejriwal, diverging from his usual focus on Congress. He criticized leaders for focusing on luxury, like “jacuzzis and stylish showers,” in a pointed attack on allegations of lavish renovations at Kejriwal’s residence, known as ‘Sheesh Mahal‘. Modi juxtaposed this with BJP’s work in ensuring basic amenities like piped water to over 12 crore people.

This exchange has fueled political debates across social media and public forums. Supporters of BJP laud Modi’s focus on action over rhetoric, while critics argue this is a distraction from more pressing governance issues. The discourse also reflects the broader political strategy where personal attacks often accompany policy discussions as elections approach.

As Delhi heads to the polls, these political exchanges underscore the intense battle for public perception. PM Modi’s comments not only aim to defend his government’s record but also to position BJP as the party genuinely working for the upliftment of the poor, contrasting sharply with what he portrays as the opposition’s lack of sincerity and focus on optics. This narrative will undoubtedly play a crucial role in shaping voter sentiment in the upcoming elections.
