PM Modi to Address Nation at 8 PM After India-Pak Ceasefire Agreement
Prime Minister Narendra Modi will address the nation at 8 pm today, following the announcement of a ceasefire agreement between India and Pakistan amid heightened military tensions.
The Prime Minister’s address comes two days after India and Pakistan agreed to halt hostilities across all fronts—land, air, and sea—after a week of military escalation.
The ceasefire follows India’s execution of Operation Sindoor, a coordinated retaliatory strike launched on May 7 in response to the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack that killed 26 people, mostly tourists. The operation reportedly targeted nine terror infrastructure sites in Pakistan and Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir, eliminating at least 100 militants.
Earlier today, PM Modi chaired a top-level security meeting at his residence in New Delhi. The meeting was attended by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, National Security Advisor Ajit Doval, Chief of Defence Staff General Anil Chauhan, and the chiefs of the Army, Navy, and Air Force.
According to government sources, the meeting also reviewed ongoing diplomatic engagements and the security situation along the border. It preceded scheduled talks between the Director Generals of Military Operations (DGMOs) of India and Pakistan.
Tensions between the two countries flared after the Pahalgam terror attack, allegedly orchestrated by groups operating from across the border. Operation Sindoor, launched in retaliation, marked one of the largest coordinated military responses by India in recent years.
Despite heightened tensions, both countries reached a ceasefire agreement on Sunday night, with diplomatic channels reportedly playing a key role in de-escalation.
