PM Modi to Address NDA Meeting Today Amid Parliament Logjam, VP Poll Buzz

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to address a meeting of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) parliamentary party on Tuesday, a significant gathering of the ruling coalition’s MPs amid a largely stalled monsoon session of Parliament. The meeting is expected to cover several pressing political issues, including the ongoing parliamentary deadlock and the upcoming vice-presidential election.
The monsoon session, which began on July 21, has seen minimal legislative business due to persistent protests from the opposition. The INDIA bloc has stalled proceedings over the Election Commission’s Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Bihar, which they allege is an attempt to disenfranchise voters. Barring a two-day debate on the Pahalgam terror attack and the subsequent “Operation Sindoor,” both Houses have been in a state of logjam.
In his address, PM Modi is expected to touch upon the opposition’s accusations against the poll body and the government’s handling of the recent terror incident. According to sources, the NDA MPs are also likely to felicitate the Prime Minister for the government’s response to the attack.
The timing of the meeting is crucial as it comes just two days before the nomination process for the vice-presidential election kicks off on August 7. The NDA, holding a clear majority in the electoral college comprising members of both Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha, is expected to see its nominee win comfortably. The election, if contested, is scheduled for September 9. Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju is likely to coordinate with allies to finalize the candidate.
Since the 2024 general election, where the BJP secured power with the help of its allies, these parliamentary meetings have been expanded to include all NDA partners, such as the TDP and JD(U). These sessions typically serve as a platform for the Prime Minister to address a wide range of governance and political matters and to provide talking points to MPs for their public outreach efforts.
