PM Modi to Launch ₹5,200 Cr Projects in Bihar, Odisha Today; Yoga Day Event in Vizag Tomorrow

Prime Minister Narendra Modi begins a crucial two-day visit to Bihar and Odisha today, during which he will inaugurate multiple infrastructure projects worth over ₹5,200 crore in Siwan, followed by key announcements in Bhubaneswar. He will also lead the International Day of Yoga celebrations in Visakhapatnam on Saturday, June 21.

Modi will arrive in Bihar’s Siwan on Friday, where he is scheduled to launch a range of projects including the inauguration of the Vaishali–Deoria railway line worth ₹400 crore and the flagging off of a new train service along the route. He will also inaugurate the Vande Bharat Express connecting Patliputra to Gorakhpur, a move aimed at significantly improving connectivity in north Bihar.

In a major push to India’s export goals, the Prime Minister will flag off the first export locomotive manufactured at GE’s Marhowra plant, which is being dispatched to Guinea. Additionally, under the Namami Gange programme, Modi will inaugurate six new sewage treatment plants, worth more than ₹1,800 crore, to tackle pollution in the Ganga river.

The Prime Minister will also launch new projects related to urban development, housing, power, and drinking water. These include the release of the first installment under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Urban) for over 53,600 beneficiaries and a symbolic Grih Pravesh (house entry) ceremony for 6,600 newly completed homes.

Later today, PM Modi will visit Odisha where he will lay the foundation stone and inaugurate projects worth over ₹18,600 crore, spanning sectors such as irrigation, drinking water, healthcare, transportation, and agriculture. Among the major highlights is the launch of train services to Boudh district, marking its first-ever integration into the Indian Railways network.

To promote sustainable public transport, the Prime Minister will also flag off 100 electric buses under Bhubaneswar’s Capital Region Urban Transport (CRUT) initiative. During his visit, he is expected to release the “Odisha Vision Document,” outlining long-term development goals aligned with the state’s 2036 centenary and India@2047.

PM Modi will also interact with and honour notable women achievers from Odisha for their contributions in various fields.

On June 21, Modi will head to Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh, to lead the 11th International Day of Yoga celebrations. The beachfront event is expected to draw over 5 lakh participants as they perform the Common Yoga Protocol. This year’s theme, “Yoga for One Earth, One Health,” emphasizes holistic health and ecological harmony.

Simultaneous Yoga Day events are scheduled at more than 3.5 lakh locations across India. Since 2015, when the UN adopted India’s proposal to mark June 21 as International Day of Yoga, PM Modi has led celebrations from cities like Delhi, Lucknow, Chandigarh, Mysuru, Srinagar, and even New York.

The visit comes amid political build-up in Bihar ahead of Assembly elections, where the BJP-JD(U) alliance is positioning itself against the INDIA bloc led by RJD. Today’s events are seen as part of a strategic outreach to key constituencies in both states.
