Prajwal Revanna Confined Woman, Raped Her Repeatedly, Filmed Acts: SIT Chargesheet

The Special Investigation Team (SIT) has filed a chargesheet against former Janata Dal (Secular) MP Prajwal Revanna, detailing serious allegations of sexual assault, confinement, and intimidation. The charges stem from a complaint filed by a domestic worker employed at the Revanna family’s farmhouse in Holenarasipura, Karnataka.

According to the chargesheet, the woman was repeatedly raped by Revanna beginning in 2021, with the assaults allegedly taking place during the Covid-19 lockdown. The incidents occurred across various locations, including the Gannikada farmhouse in Holenarasipura and residential properties in Bengaluru.

The SIT stated that Revanna not only confined the survivor but also filmed the assaults without her consent. The videos were allegedly used to intimidate her into silence. The survivor eventually approached the police after some of these videos surfaced online, prompting her to quit her job and come forward with her testimony.

The former MP has been in judicial custody for over ten months and has been denied bail multiple times. He faces several charges under the Indian Penal Code, including:

  • Section 376(2)(k) – Rape by a person in a position of control or dominance
  • Section 376(2)(n) – Repeated rape of the same woman
  • Sections 354A, 354B, 354C – Sexual harassment, assault to disrobe, and voyeurism
  • Section 506 – Criminal intimidation
  • Section 201 – Destruction of evidence

Additionally, Revanna has been booked under Section 66E of the Information Technology Act, 2008, for violating the survivor’s privacy by recording and circulating explicit content.

The trial court is scheduled to hear the matter again on April 9. The current chargesheet focuses on the testimony of the domestic worker, though it is one of several ongoing cases against Revanna.

Between April 28 and June 10, 2024, a total of four FIRs were filed against him at the Holenarasipura Police Station. Two additional cases are under investigation at cybercrime stations in Bengaluru.

In a related development, Prajwal Revanna’s father, Holenarasipura MLA HD Revanna, has also been named in a separate case registered at KR Nagar Police Station.

The case has attracted significant public and political attention in Karnataka, with calls for justice growing louder as the trial proceedings continue.
