President Appoints Kavinder Gupta As New Ladakh LG; Haryana, Goa Also Get New Governors

In a significant administrative reshuffle, President Droupadi Murmu on Monday appointed senior BJP leader and former Jammu and Kashmir Deputy Chief Minister, Kavinder Gupta, as the new Lieutenant Governor of the Union Territory of Ladakh.
According to a press communique issued by Rashtrapati Bhavan, the President has accepted the resignation of the incumbent LG, Brig (Dr) BD Mishra (Retd).
The President also appointed new governors for two states. Professor Ashim Kumar Ghosh will be the new Governor of Haryana, while former Union Minister Pusapati Ashok Gajapathi Raju has been appointed as the Governor of Goa.
These appointments will take effect from the dates the new appointees assume charge of their respective offices.
Prof. Ghosh will replace Bandaru Dattatreya in the Haryana Raj Bhavan. In Goa, P.S. Sreedharan Pillai makes way for Ashok Gajapathi Raju, who has previously served as the Union Minister for Civil Aviation in the Modi government.
Kavinder Gupta’s appointment to the strategically crucial Union Territory of Ladakh is particularly noteworthy. As a senior leader from the region with experience as the Deputy CM of the erstwhile state of Jammu and Kashmir, his posting is seen as a significant political move by the Centre.
These appointments come just a day after the President nominated four new members to the Rajya Sabha: former Foreign Secretary Harsh Vardhan Shringla, eminent lawyer Ujjwal Nikam, historian Dr. Meenakshi Jain, and Kerala-based teacher and social worker C. Sadanandan Master.
