Rahul Gandhi Extends Full Support to Govt After All-Party Meet on Pahalgam Attack
In the wake of the Pahalgam terror attack that killed 26 civilians, Opposition leader Rahul Gandhi pledged full support to the Centre for any decisive action.
In a rare show of political unity, Opposition parties expressed unanimous support to the government following an all-party meeting convened to discuss the national response to the Pahalgam massacre. Foreign Minister S Jaishankar briefed political leaders on the security situation and diplomatic developments during the closed-door session.
“All political parties have uniformly condemned it and the Opposition has given full support to the government to take any action,” said Rahul Gandhi, the Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, after the meeting.
Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge emphasized the urgent need for peace in the Union Territory. “We want peace to be restored in Jammu and Kashmir as soon as possible,” Kharge told reporters.
Sources indicated that External Affairs Minister Jaishankar provided a detailed account of India’s diplomatic outreach, security evaluations, and potential countermeasures. The government reportedly highlighted Pakistan’s indirect involvement through proxy terror outfits such as The Resistance Front (TRF), which claimed responsibility for the massacre.
On April 22, terrorists opened fire on tourists at the Baisaran meadow in Pahalgam, killing 26 people and injuring several others. The attack marked the worst civilian massacre in Jammu and Kashmir since the 2019 Pulwama tragedy. The TRF, believed to be linked to Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Taiba, took responsibility.
The Opposition’s backing comes at a critical moment, with India taking tough diplomatic and security measures, including revoking visas of Pakistani nationals and suspending the Indus Waters Treaty. The bipartisan support signals a united national front in addressing terrorism and bolstering domestic security.
