Six Odisha Workers Killed in Andhra Pradesh Quarry Collapse

At least six migrant workers from Odisha were killed and ten others were injured on Sunday after a large section of rock collapsed at a quarry in Andhra Pradesh’s Bapatla district. The incident occurred during quarrying operations, burying the workers under tons of debris. Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu has expressed his grief and ordered a thorough investigation into the accident.

The collapse happened while 16 labourers, many of whom had traveled from Odisha in search of work, were present at the construction site. Rescue teams were immediately dispatched to the scene and worked to pull survivors from the rubble. While ten people were rescued with injuries, the condition of four of them is reported to be critical.

In response to the tragedy, Chief Minister Naidu extended his “heartfelt condolences to the families of the deceased” and instructed district officials to ensure the injured receive the best possible medical care. He emphasized the need for strict safety measures to be enforced at all quarries to prevent similar disasters in the future.

Former Chief Minister and YSR Congress Party President YS Jagan Mohan Reddy also expressed shock over the incident, describing it as “heart-wrenching.” “The collapse of the quarry’s edge claimed the lives of workers from Odisha, who had come in search of their livelihood, leaving their families devastated,” he said in a statement. Jagan urged the current government to provide immediate financial assistance to the victims’ families and ensure quality treatment for the injured, offering his condolences and solidarity.
