SP MP Ramji Lal Suman Calls Rana Sanga a ‘Traitor’ in Parliament Sparks BJP Outrage
Samajwadi Party MP Ramji Lal Suman’s remark calling Rajput king Rana Sanga a “traitor” during a Rajya Sabha debate has ignited a fierce row, with the BJP slamming it as an insult to the Rajput community and demanding an apology.
On March 22, 2025, SP leader Ramji Lal Suman stirred controversy in a Home Ministry discussion by labeling 16th-century Rajput ruler Rana Sanga a “traitor.” The statement came as he countered BJP claims linking Indian Muslims to Mughal emperor Babur.
Suman argued, “BJP leaders say Muslims have Babur’s DNA, but Indian Muslims don’t see him as their ideal. It was Rana Sanga who invited Babur to defeat Ibrahim Lodi. If Muslims are Babur’s descendants, then you are Rana Sanga’s—a traitor.”
Former BJP MP Sanjeev Balyan condemned the comment, stating, “Calling the great warrior Rana Sanga a traitor in Parliament is a grave insult to the Rajput community and Hindu society.” He urged the SP to apologise nationally.

Rana Sanga, a Sisodia dynasty ruler, governed Mewar from 1508 to 1528, uniting Rajput clans against the Delhi Sultanate. Babur’s 1526 victory over Ibrahim Lodi at Panipat marked the Mughal Empire’s foundation in India.
BJP MP Manoj Tiwari rejected the Babur linkage, saying, “We never said Muslims are Babur’s descendants. They are ours.” Meanwhile, PP Chaudhary called Suman’s words “unacceptable” and an affront to India’s history.
Balyan shared a clip of Suman’s speech online, intensifying the backlash. The BJP accused the SP of distorting history, with Tiwari questioning efforts to glorify figures like Aurangzeb amid the row.
The controversy could escalate tensions between the SP and BJP, with potential protests from Rajput groups looming. The SP’s response to the apology demand and further parliamentary debates may shape the fallout.
