‘Today Will Be Etched in History’ Says Tamil Nadu CM MK Stalin Ahead Of JAC Meet Today
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin on Saturday welcomed leaders to Chennai for the first Joint Action Committee (JAC) meeting on delimitation, calling it a historic step to protect India’s federal structure amid tensions with the Centre.
On March 22, 2025, leaders from various opposition parties arrived in Chennai for the JAC meeting hosted by the MK Stalin-led Tamil Nadu government. The meeting aims to address concerns over the proposed delimitation exercise and its impact on federalism.
In a social media post on X, Stalin stated, “Today will be etched in history as the day when states that have contributed to our nation’s development came together to safeguard its federal structure by ensuring #FairDelimitation.” He extended a warm welcome to attending Chief Ministers and political leaders.

The Tamil Nadu government has positioned the meeting as a stand against what it calls an “attack on federalism” by the BJP-led Centre. The delimitation issue has sparked debate over equitable representation for states in Parliament.
The initiative, initially driven by Tamil Nadu, has gained traction across India. Stalin has invited Chief Ministers from seven states, including both NDA-ruled and opposition-led regions, to join the discussion on fair delimitation policies.
The JAC meeting is expected to outline a unified strategy to address delimitation concerns. With opposition parties rallying behind Stalin, the outcome could shape future political and legal actions against the Centre’s plans, with updates anticipated post-meeting.
