Days after a terror attack killed 26 tourists in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, domestic and international visitors are once again returning, with authorities assuring heightened safety measures.

Despite initial fears, tourists from across India and abroad are continuing with their travel plans to Pahalgam. Speaking to India Today, a tourist from Kolkata said, “Kashmir is safe now, everything is open, tourists are safe, everyone is coming, so please do come if you have plans.”

Mohammad Anas, a tourist from Surat, echoed the sentiment, telling ANI, “There is nothing to worry about. The Army, government, and locals are with us and ensuring our safety.”

Foreign visitors from Croatia also praised the security arrangements and local hospitality. “We have been here for 3–4 days and we are feeling very safe. Kashmir is beautiful and people are very kind,” a tourist told ANI.

Following the April 22 attack, Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah made a strong appeal to tourists, urging them not to abandon their travel plans.
“I can understand the fear among tourists. But if they leave Kashmir now, it may allow our enemies to win,” Abdullah said, emphasizing the government’s commitment to ensuring visitor safety.

In a show of solidarity, actor Atul Kulkarni visited Pahalgam on Sunday and encouraged citizens to continue supporting Kashmir’s tourism sector.
“The intention of the terror attack was to tell tourists not to come. If we cancel our plans, we allow terrorists to succeed,” Kulkarni told PTI. He noted that his Mumbai-to-Srinagar flight was nearly empty, a rare sight during peak tourist season.

On April 22, terrorists linked to a Pakistan-based group opened fire at tourists visiting Baisaran meadow, a popular attraction near Pahalgam. The attack led to widespread shock and an initial exodus of visitors.

The Jammu and Kashmir tourism sector, already grappling with past security concerns, faces renewed challenges but remains determined to recover quickly.

Authorities and locals alike are working together to restore confidence in Kashmir’s safety. With continued reassurances and visible security measures, tourism officials hope that the region’s recovery will be swift and sustainable.
