Trinamool Turmoil: Kalyan Banerjee's Outburst Against Fellow MP Sparks Public Row

In a rare public fallout within the Trinamool Congress, senior party leader and MP Kalyan Banerjee launched a scathing attack against a fellow “rude female MP”, accusing her of attempting to get him arrested during a recent visit to the Election Commission headquarters. The internal discord spilled into the public domain following the leak of videos and WhatsApp messages, now widely circulated by political rivals.

At a press conference, Banerjee, without naming the MP, accused her of repeatedly targeting Prime Minister Narendra Modi and businessman Gautam Adani while ignoring broader political discourse. “She has no other issue in her politics except Modi and Adani,” he said. “I will not accept that uncivilised woman. I will not tolerate that rude female MP who pressurises me to give her more time (to speak in Parliament). What is this?”

The video of the altercation, reportedly from April 4 at the Election Commission of India office, was released by BJP IT Cell chief Amit Malviya. In the footage, Kalyan Banerjee can be seen angrily addressing another MP while Trinamool’s Rajya Sabha MP Derek O’Brien attempts to calm him down, saying, “We are in a public space brother, I’m pleading with you.”

Speaking on the matter, Banerjee said he was provoked at the poll panel’s office. “She was shouting at the top of her voice and I responded accordingly. In the meantime, she ran to the BSF and asked them to arrest me,” he alleged.

Veteran Trinamool MP Saugata Roy also weighed in, indirectly referring to the MP in question as Mahua Moitra. “She was seen crying in Parliament,” he said, adding that Banerjee’s conduct was being widely criticised within the party. “Many MPs said Kalyan’s behaviour cannot be tolerated and that Mamata Banerjee should be informed about it.”

While Roy admitted he was not present at the scene, he stressed that the matter had disturbed many in the party.

Sources indicate that West Bengal Chief Minister and TMC supremo Mamata Banerjee is deeply displeased with the internal feud becoming public. “No MP should fan this crisis any further,” she reportedly told party members, instructing them to refrain from public statements or media interviews.

The incident has provided fodder for the BJP, which has been quick to highlight the Trinamool’s internal rifts ahead of the Assembly elections.
