Two Terrorists Killed as Army Foils Infiltration Bid in J&K’s Gurez Sector
The Indian Army on Thursday foiled a significant infiltration attempt along the Line of Control (LoC) in the Gurez sector of Jammu and Kashmir’s Bandipora district, killing two terrorists in a swift operation. The encounter began after alert troops detected suspicious movement and engaged a group of infiltrators attempting to cross into Indian territory.
The joint operation by the Indian Army and Jammu and Kashmir Police was launched based on specific intelligence regarding a likely infiltration attempt. As the troops challenged the intruders near Naushehra Naar, the terrorists opened fire, leading to a brief but intense gunfight. The effective retaliatory fire from the security forces resulted in the neutralization of two terrorists.
“Based on intelligence provided by JKP regarding likely infiltration attempt, a joint operation was launched by Indian Army and @JmuKmrPolice in Gurez Sector,” the Army’s Chinar Corps stated in a post on X (formerly Twitter). “Alert troops spotted suspicious activity and challenged, which resulted in terrorists opening indiscriminate fire. Troops responded with effective fire, neutralising two terrorists.”
Following the encounter, the Army launched a massive search operation at first light to sanitize the area and ensure no other infiltrators were present. The bodies of the slain terrorists were subsequently located during this sweep.
This successful operation is the latest in a series of counter-terrorism efforts in the region. Earlier this month, security forces eliminated six terrorists affiliated with The Resistance Front (TRF), a proxy group of Lashkar-e-Taiba, in a separate operation in the Akhal forest area. The TRF had claimed responsibility for the deadly Pahalgam terror attack that killed 26 civilians, highlighting the continued threat posed by such groups.
