UP Woman Dragged, Beaten and Burnt Alive Over Dowry, Husband Arrested After Child’s Chilling Video Surfaces
A woman in Greater Noida has died after allegedly being set on fire by her husband and in-laws in a horrific dowry-related crime. The victim’s husband, Vipin, has been arrested, while police are searching for three other family members named in the FIR. The case has sparked widespread outrage, intensified by a viral video in which the victim’s young child appears to implicate his father.
The incident came to light on Thursday night when the victim, identified as Nikki, was rushed to a Greater Noida hospital with severe burn injuries. She was later referred to Safdarjung Hospital in Delhi for specialized treatment but succumbed to her injuries on the way. According to a complaint filed by Nikki’s elder sister, Kanchan, the victim was first beaten unconscious by her husband before being doused with an inflammable substance and set ablaze.
Kanchan alleged that despite her family providing a branded SUV and other valuables at the time of Nikki’s marriage to Vipin in 2016, the in-laws’ demands for more dowry were relentless. “After marriage, they demanded Rs 35 lakh. We even gave them another car, but their demands and harassment continued unabated,” she said. Both sisters had been married into the same family.
The case took a more disturbing turn with the emergence of a video of Nikki’s young son. In the widely circulated clip, the boy is reportedly heard saying, “Papa killed Mummy by burning her with a lighter.” The victim’s uncle, Raj Singh, confirmed a history of abuse, stating that previous attempts to resolve the ongoing harassment through panchayat meetings had failed.
Police have registered a case against the husband, Vipin, his brother Rohit, mother Daya, and father Satveer. ADCP Greater Noida Sudhir Kumar confirmed Vipin’s arrest and stated that teams have been formed to apprehend the remaining accused. “Based on her sister’s complaint, a case has been registered against four family members. The husband has been arrested,” he said. The victim’s family is demanding swift and strict action against all those responsible.
