‘Very Painful’: K Kavitha Quits BRS After Suspension, Hits Out at Brother KTR
A day after being suspended from the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS), K Kavitha on Wednesday announced her resignation from her Member of Legislative Council (MLC) post and the party’s primary membership, calling the move against her “very painful.” The decision marks a significant schism within Telangana’s most prominent political family.
Addressing the media, a visibly emotional Kavitha confirmed her departure from the party led by her father, K Chandrasekhar Rao (KCR). “I am resigning from the MLC position and the party’s primary membership,” she stated, adding, “I am sending my resignation to the Speaker and to K Chandrasekhar Rao.”
Expressing her anguish over the suspension, Kavitha said, “It is very painful that I am suddenly suspended from the BRS party.” She clarified that she has no immediate plans to join another political outfit. “I am not going with any party, but will discuss with the Telangana Jagruti members and decide on the next steps,” she explained.
In a poignant moment, Kavitha spoke on her relationship with her father and brother, KT Rama Rao (KTR), who is the party’s working president. “KCR garu and KTR garu are my family. We are bound by blood. This bond should not break over reasons like suspension from the party or losing posts,” she asserted, while alleging that internal forces were working against her. “However, some people want our family to disintegrate for their personal and political growth,” she claimed.
Kavitha directed sharp criticism at her brother, revealing that she had warned him about conspiracies against her, but her pleas were ignored. “I went to Bhavan and met brother KTR. I told him about the conspiracies and the false campaign against me. I requested him, not even as a sister, but also as an MLC of the party, but he did not bother. He didn’t even call me,” she revealed. Challenging him directly, she asked, “This happened long ago… Did you take any action on this, Anna? Did you even speak a single word about it?”
The BRS had suspended Kavitha on Tuesday, citing “anti-party activities.” In a communication to the media, party general secretaries stated that KCR had taken the decision with immediate effect after her recent behaviour was deemed to be “hurting the BRS.”
