‘Waiting For Permission From Pak?’: BJP Slams Rahul Gandhi, Congress Over Silence on India’s Asia Cup Win
The BJP on Monday launched a blistering attack on Rahul Gandhi and the Congress party for their “comatose state” and conspicuous silence following India’s spectacular victory over Pakistan in the Asia Cup final. Amit Malviya, the head of BJP’s IT cell, accused the Congress of waiting for “permission from Mohsin Naqvi and their other handlers in Pakistan” before congratulating the Indian cricket team.
In a series of posts on X, Malviya drew parallels between the Congress’s muted response to the cricket victory and what he termed their silence after the Indian armed forces’ “stupendous strikes” during Operation Sindoor. “Not even a single social media post from Congress congratulating our national team for thrashing Pakistan thrice in the tournament and bringing the Asia Cup home,” Malviya wrote, adding, “Once again, Pakistan, Rahul Gandhi, and Congress find themselves on the same side of the divide”.
The BJP’s attack comes in the wake of a highly dramatic final in Dubai, where Team India not only defeated Pakistan by five wickets but also refused to accept the winners’ trophy from ACC chairman and Pakistan’s Interior Minister, Mohsin Naqvi. Malviya highlighted this act of defiance by the Indian team, contrasting it with the Congress party’s lack of any public acknowledgment of the victory.
Another BJP national spokesperson, Pradeep Bhandari, echoed Malviya’s sentiment, calling the Congress the “B-Team of Pakistan” and questioning why the party “always supports Pakistan over India”. The BJP’s sharp criticism aims to corner the Congress on a nationalist platform, portraying the opposition party’s silence as a lack of patriotism and an alignment with Pakistan’s interests.
