Dark Skies Over Delhi; Heavy Rain Alerts in North India
Delhi and neighboring regions woke up to dark skies and heavy rainfall on Friday, marking the beginning of a cold and wet spell. The showers, which started early morning, continued throughout the day, causing a significant drop in temperatures. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an ‘orange’ alert for Delhi, warning of further rain and hailstorms in the coming days.
Hailstorm Alerts and Rainfall Updates
The IMD has sounded a hailstorm alert for Delhi and several parts of North India. These areas include Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana, and Uttar Pradesh. An ‘orange’ alert is in place for Friday in Delhi, with a ‘yellow’ alert extending into Saturday and Sunday.
Heavy Rain was driven by a Western Disturbance interacting with easterly winds. The heaviest downpour in Delhi was recorded at the North Campus of Delhi University. It led to waterlogging in low-lying areas. There were disruptions in traffic across South, Central, and North Delhi.
