Flight Advisory Issued in Delhi as Cold Wave Intensifies Across North India
North India is currently experiencing a severe cold wave, with temperatures drop across the region. In Srinagar, the mercury dropped to minus 7.3 degrees Celsius, while Tabo in Himachal Pradesh’s Lahaul and Spiti district recorded a chilling minus 10.6 degrees Celsius, making it the coldest place in the state.
In the national capital, Delhi, the maximum temperature on December 25 was 22.4 degrees Celsius, slightly above the seasonal average. However, the minimum temperature dipped to 8.4 degrees Celsius, 1.5 degrees below normal. Low visibility due to dense fog has been a concern at the Delhi Airport. Although flight operations have continued, the airport authorities issued an advisory. Flights not equipped with CAT III compliance may be affected. Passengers are advised to check with their respective airlines for updated flight information.
Rajasthan is grappling with dense fog. Light rain has been reported in eastern parts. Some western regions are experiencing ‘cold day’ conditions. In Punjab, Faridkot recorded the lowest minimum temperature at 4.2 degrees Celsius, followed by Amritsar at 5.4 degrees Celsius and Gurdaspur at 5.5 degrees Celsius. Haryana’s Narnaul was the coldest in the state, with a minimum temperature of 5.2 degrees Celsius, while Hisar, Karnal, Sirsa, and Gurugram recorded lows ranging from 6.8 to 9.3 degrees Celsius.
Uttar Pradesh experienced two days of rain due to western disturbances, which cleared up on Wednesday. Meanwhile, Kashmir is enduring ‘Chillai-Kalan,’ the harshest 40-day winter period that began on December 21. The weather department forecasts a further drop of two to three degrees in minimum temperatures in the valley over the next two days.
Himachal Pradesh continues to face cold wave conditions, with minimum temperatures falling in most areas. The weather department predicts rain and snow in isolated places, particularly in Shimla, from Friday evening to Sunday afternoon.
