Rainy morning in Delhi as Cold Wave Intensifies │Weather Update
Delhi woke up to a rainy and chilly morning on December 27, as the cold wave tightened its grip over the national capital and surrounding regions. Early morning showers, coupled with lightning, brought temperatures down, signaling a cold and wet spell ahead. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecasted thunderstorms, hailstorms, and moderate rainfall across northwestern and central India due to an active western disturbance.
Weather Update for Delhi
As of 7:23 AM today, the temperature in Delhi stood at 13°C, with the IMD predicting a maximum of 20°C and a minimum of 12°C on Friday. Rainfall is expected to continue over the next two days, accompanied by intensified fog and strong winds. Neighboring regions, including Noida, also witnessed early morning drizzle, with similar conditions expected throughout the day.
Air Quality Slightly Improves
Delhi’s air quality index (AQI) showed marginal improvement on Thursday, with further enhancement expected on Friday. Despite this, the AQI remains in the ‘very poor’ category, according to the Central Pollution Control Board. Following this improvement, the Central Government’s air quality monitoring panel has revoked Stage IV measures under the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP) for Delhi and the National Capital Region (NCR). However, restrictions under Stages I, II, and III will still apply.
Warnings for Northern and Central India
The IMD has issued hailstorm warnings for states including Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Rajasthan, and Uttar Pradesh. On December 27 and 28, similar conditions are likely in Madhya Pradesh. Northern states are expected to experience a temperature drop of 2–3°C. Heavy snowfall is forecasted in the western Himalayan region during the same period.
Impact of the Western Disturbance
The active western disturbance is the primary driver of this unusual weather pattern, bringing heavy rain, thunderstorms, and potential hailstorms to the region. Residents are advised to stay updated on weather alerts and take necessary precautions during this cold and wet spell.
