‘What Is He Hiding?’: BJP And Congress Spar Over Rahul Gandhi’s Alleged Security Breaches Abroad
A political firestorm has erupted between the BJP and the Congress after reports emerged that the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) flagged multiple security protocol breaches by Rahul Gandhi during his recent foreign trips. The BJP seized on the issue to question the Congress leader’s activities abroad, while the opposition party hit back, suggesting the timing of the “public release” of the CRPF’s concerns was a veiled attempt to intimidate him amid his campaign against the government.
The controversy centres on letters reportedly sent by the CRPF to Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge and Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday, detailing instances where Gandhi, who has the highest level ‘Z plus’ security cover, allegedly failed to follow established protocols.
According to news reports, the CRPF highlighted several foreign tours—to Italy, Vietnam, Dubai, Qatar, London, and Malaysia—where Gandhi allegedly travelled without providing prior intimation to his security detail, a mandatory requirement under the ‘Yellow Book’ protocol for VVIPs. The force reportedly expressed serious concern that such lapses weaken his security and expose him to potential risks.
The BJP immediately went on the offensive. The party’s IT cell head, Amit Malviya, posted on X, “CRPF flags breach of security protocol by Rahul Gandhi. Under the Yellow Book protocol, individuals under high-category security are required to provide prior intimation about their movements, including foreign travel, to enable deployment.
Rahul doesn’t…” Other BJP leaders amplified the attack, with national spokesperson Pradeep Bhandari questioning Gandhi’s motives. “What exactly is Rahul Gandhi hiding? CRPF’s flagging of breaches in security protocol by Rahul Gandhi during foreign visits is a grave violation. Whose orders is Rahul Gandhi following during these suspicious foreign visits? Rahul Gandhi is dangerous for India’s democracy!” Bhandari wrote.
The Congress, while yet to issue an official statement, pushed back strongly. Senior leader Pawan Khera questioned the timing and manner of the leak, linking it directly to Gandhi’s ongoing ‘vote chori’ campaign against the BJP. “The timing of the CRPF’s letter and its instant public release raise disturbing questions,” Khera posted on X. “Is this a veiled attempt to intimidate the Leader of Opposition, who has already announced another imminent disclosure? Is the government rattled by the truth he is about to reveal?” The CRPF itself has so far remained tight-lipped on the matter and has not officially confirmed the contents of the letters.
